Hughes County Sheriff Cuts Ties with Muscogee Nation in Facebook Post; Tribe Responds

HOLDENVILLE, Oklahoma – Hughes County Sheriff’s Office has released a letter stating the organization will “no longer be honoring” their cross-deputization agreements with the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Police. The letter dated February 8 came from a Facebook post from the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office late evening February 9. The post included a document authored by Hughes County Sheriff Marcia Maxwell.
