Pennie Shipley retires after 32 years

Pennie Shipley has decided to lay down her Smartboard remote, throw away her whistle, and retire. Pennie has been in a school system and classrooms in various capacities for 32 years, but she has taught 15 years. She has spent the last 11 years teaching third grade at Emerson Elementary.

Wanda Utterback honored at chamber banquet

WANDA UTTERBACK, EDITOR OF THE COALGATE RECORD REGISTER, was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chamber in recognition of her many years of service to her profession and the manner in which she represents the citizens of Coal County. Bill and Dayna Robinson, publishers of the Coalgate Record Register, also presented her a plaque of appreciation. After 32 years with the newspaper, Wanda’s official retirement date was May 31, 2022. Service today for Roy Shoemake

Roy Price Shoemake passed away peacefully in his sleep at home and surrounded by loved ones on May 27, 2022. He was born on September 11, 1937 in Lehigh, Oklahoma and graduated from Coalgate High School in 1956. He was the patriarch of his large and loving family and will be deeply missed.

Service held for Mary Frances Roebuck

Funeral services for Mary Frances (Breger) Roebuck, a Coalgate resident, were held Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Brother Eddie Hogue officiating. Burial was in Riley Cemetery in Olney with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Murray State College held its commencement ceremony for Fall 2021, Spring 2022, and Summer 2022 graduates on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 7 p.m. on the front lawn of the Tishomingo campus. A long-standing tradition, in a beautiful setting, exercising commencement on the front lawn is a celebration of the hard work and dedication our students, faculty, and staff have shown throughout the academic year.

Vehicle crash claims life of Coalgate woman

A Coalgate woman was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash in Atoka County on Wednesday, May 24, at approximately 10:30 p.m. The accident occurred on SH 43 and E. Fred’s Fish Camp Road near Stringtown.
