25 th Anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombing

Sunday, April 19, marks the 25th anniversary of the bombing of the Alfred R. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The 1995 bombing killed 168 people, including 19 children, and injured hundreds more in what was then the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

A 19-year-old Allen, OK woman was airlifted to an Oklahoma City hospital Saturday, April 12, after the vehicle in which she was a passenger overturned on a county road north of Centrahoma.

Easter was subdued and strange this year. There were no Easter church services this year. Stores were mostly locked and empty. Shopping centers in the cities are shuttered. There is no Annual Easter Egg Hunt in Allen City Park. If the long-time promoter of this event, Buck Gilmore, was still alive he would be surprised. But it was the Corona Virus—a Pandemic that has shut down much of the world. Who knew it could shut down all the churches in America? But it has.

When this is over may we never again take for granted: A handshake with a stranger, full shelves at the store, conversations with neighbors, a crowded theatre, Friday night out, the taste of communion, a routine checkup, the school rush each morning, coffee with a friend, the stadium roaring, each deep breath, a boring Tuesday, life itself. When this ends: may we find that we have become more like the people we wanted to be, we were called to be, we hoped to be, and may we stay that way—better for each other because of the worst.
